BIO: Instructor Derek James (5 year professional)
Derek has been at Northridge Hills for 5 years. He has worked in the golf business since 1999 previously at the Jacksonville Country Club. He is also the Women’s and Men’s Golf Coach at MacMurray College. Derek has worked with ages 5 to 80 and has worked with many successful high school and college players. “I enjoy working with all levels from beginners to advanced. It gives me an opportunity to give back to players what I have received from this game.”
PLAYING EXPERIENCE:
Derek was a member of MacMurray College Golf team from 1999-2003. While at MacMurray he became one of MacMurray’s all time leading golfer. He won 4 tournaments, was a 2 time all conference player, and earned the Player of the Year and Conference Champion Honors his senior year. He was also mention to the All-Midwest Regional Team. After college he went on to play in the Jacksonville City Tournament in 2004 in which he captured the title. Derek played the 2008-2010 Gateway PGA Series and placed in the top 20 for 2009.
TEACHING STYLE: The teaching style created by Derek is one of simplicity. His goal is to better a golfer by use of basic mechanics, alignment techniques, and fundamentals. “My goal is to use the swing a player has and tweak it using simple drills, techniques and basics to better your game. We have use of video analysis to capture your swing and visually see it, and swing trainers to help with strength.”
